Wellsville is a stunning location year round. There are rolling hills that are incredibly green in the spring and summer and then turn to long golden grass in the fall. If you're looking for a lot of trees, you might be more interested in the Mendon Mountain View or the Denzil Stewart Nature Park locations. While Wellsville does offer a few trees in the background there are no trees close by the photo spot. Wellsville is located about 30 minutes south of the north Walmart (my point of reference). To get to this location, you will have to drive about 0.1 miles on a well maintained dirt road. There is parking on the left side of the road and after parking you will climb about 6 steep steps over a barbed wire fence. From there you will climb a hill with a 50-100 feet incline. Trust me- this spot is worth the walk! No matter what the season, you will want to start your session about one hour before sunset for the best light.
EARLY SPRING
During the early spring, the colors in Wellsville are very subtle. The grass is green, but the tree haven't quite found their color yet. If you get the timing right, the sun can make the hills look magically golden. The following photos were taken in April.
SUMMER
Summer at Wellsville is gorgeous. The rolling hills at this location are always amazing, but especially so during the summer months because they are beautifully green. By June, the trees turn a dark green that compliments the golden, green grass perfectly.
EARLY FALL
In the fall you will find more neutral colors at Wellsville. The grass turns golden and the trees in the background being to change. In the early fall, the trees are still early green which adds a fun touch of color to the photos. I love the trees during the last week of September through the first week of October. The window for the beautiful fall colors on the trees doesn't last long, but if you can book a session in those few weeks, you won't regret it.
LATE FALL
In late fall, the trees have turned completely golden. This change typically takes place by the second week of October. The grass remains the same throughout the fall, the only difference between early fall and late fall is the color of the trees.
WINTER
The rolling hills in Wellsville are still stunning in the winter. If it's a snowy winter, you might just be lucky enough to have snow covered hills as your backdrop. You really can't go wrong with the color contrast in the winter. The golden brown grass and the glimmering snow make for some beautiful shots!
